Pim Prok Pho This temple was built to resemble a mythical castle of the gods. According to legend, a wealthy and pious man built a fabulous castle, Loha Prasat, from the design laid down in Hindu mythology for the disciples of the Buddha. Wat Rachanada, meant to duplicate that castle, is the only one of its kind remaining. These pims were only discovered in BE 2514 after a cement mixer collided with a chedi which when fully excavated revealed a cache of amulets, this being a typical example. At the time news of the find caused quite an local attraction and not unexpectedly, unauthorised digging commenced even before the temple was fully aware. As a result many amulets wer offered for sale on the open market within days. The abbot did have an opportunity to stop the theft and the temple continued the recovery of the pims, authorised by the fine arts department. Most of the remaining amulets are now property of the temple and considered a national treasure. A total of two sacks were recovered and comprised of 10 different pims, mostly white to light brown in appearance. The amulets themselves are thought quite similar to amulets recovered from Kampaeng. The fine arts department cfould not stste who had made these amulets but said they were most likely created at the time or for King Naatdaanaja just over 100 years ago. Once the official dig was completed local folk were given the oportunity to continue digging for a pre-set period of time. Dont be mis-led by the low price I am charging for this amulet, I can assure you it is rare, and the price does not in any way reflect that rarity. It is priced as such simply to encourage an interest in Phra Kru. So a great opportunity for someone to acquire a small piece of Thai Buddhist history at a very affordable price. I would also like to add that if anyone has an interest I will also help to complete the collection of all the pims from this temple, a nice easy route into the world of Phra Kru and a path to real knowledge about Thai amulets.
