Produced in a yellow enamel glaze, this amulet is notable for its limited production, sacred materials, and direct spiritual lineage linking it to the legendary Khun Paen of Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon. WWell-preserved examples are distinguished by their excellent form, balanced proportions, evenly applied glaze across the entire surface, and a clear rubber stamp mark on the reverse, all of which are key indicators of authenticity. Background and Purpose of Creation This amulet was commissioned by Police Major General Thani Somboon Sap (rank at the time), who created the series as a dedicatory offering in honor of his mother, Mrs. Thongmuan Somboon Sap. The project was undertaken with deep respect for tradition and strict adherence to classical Khun Paen iconography. The mold was faithfully derived from the renowned enamelled Khun Paen amulets of Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, the most famous and highly valued amulet group of Ayutthaya Province—examples of which are today valued in the multi-million baht range. Due to the shared lineage and sacred material composition, this Somboon Sap edition is widely accepted as a legitimate spiritual counterpart and substitute for the original Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon Khun Paen. Sacred Materials and Composition A defining feature of this amulet is its exceptional sacred mass. Broken, damaged, and incomplete original Khun Paen enamelled amulets from the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon cache were carefully crushed and incorporated as a primary sacred ingredient. In addition, a large quantity of ancient Ayutthaya-period amulets—especially damaged Khun Paen examples from various burial sites—were ground and mixed into the clay. These materials were further combined with sacred earth from Lamphun, an ancient and spiritually significant city in northern Thailand. The resulting mixture was formed into Khun Paen, large-chest, low-base mold amulets and finished with a red enamel glaze, producing an amulet rich in historical resonance and spiritual continuity. Because genuine fragments from the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon Khun Paen were included in the sacred mass, the spiritual qualities of this amulet are widely regarded as comparable to those of the original ancient examples. Blessing Ceremony and Spiritual Authority The amulets were consecrated by Phra Phuttha Saro Anusavak (Luang Pu Chuen) of Wat Yan Sen, Ayutthaya Province. Luang Pu Chuen was universally revered as a pure and highly realized monk (Phra Supatipanno) and was widely respected throughout Ayutthaya and neighboring provinces. Renowned for his longevity, moral purity, and meditative discipline, Luang Pu Chuen personally performed the chanting, blessing, and empowerment of this Khun Paen edition. His involvement is a critical factor in the amulet’s reputation, particularly in the area of loving-kindness (Metta) and personal charisma. Spiritual Attributes and Reputation The Khun Paen “Somboon Sap” enamelled amulet is especially revered for its reputed powers of: Loving-kindness and charm (Metta Mahaniyom) Attraction, popularity, and interpersonal success Wealth, prosperity, and material completeness (Somboon Sap) Personal confidence and authority Within Ayutthaya Province, the enamelled Khun Paen of Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon is considered the most prestigious amulet of its kind. This Somboon Sap edition is widely accepted as one of the closest modern equivalents, both spiritually and materially, while remaining far more attainable for serious collectors.
